Soccer -- Gators' Mercatoris tallies hat-trick

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek's Rachelle Mercatoris scored all three goals for the Gators in a 3-0 win at home over SouthWest Edgecombe.
With the win, the Gators improved to 3-5 in the Classes 2-A Eastern Plains/1-A Carolina/Super-Six Conference heading into an April 26 match-up at James Kenan. Spring Creek improved
Anna Potter and Alex Garner had assists for the Gators, who had 15 shots on goal.
"We controlled and played with the ball on our end of the field for most of the game," Spring Creek coach Michelle Cobb said.
Gator goalie Barbara Witherington had two saves in the shutout.
Cobb also praised Christie Bradshaw at midfield and Heather Jones, Kelly Murphy and Kaitlin Murphy on defense.
