Softball -- Humphrey, Hawks blank Blue Devils

DEEP RUN -- North Lenoir senior pitcher Hermia Humphrey tossed a three-hit shutout as the Hawks defeated rival South Lenoir 9-0 on Tuesday at the Blue Devils' diamond.
The win improves the Hawks (16-2 overall), ranked third in the latest ihigh.com coaches/softball poll, to 6-0 in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference.
Humphrey struck out seven against two walks as she improved her mark to 9-1.
Randi Moulton and Humphrey had two hits each as Moulton doubled and Humphrey drove in a run. Mary Catherine Mills had two RBI, while Ashley Griffin tripled.
Humphrey praised the North Lenoir defense in the win.
The Hawks battle Greene Central on Friday.
