Tennis -- C.B. Aycock takes twinbill

WINTERVILLE -- C.B. Aycock moved one step closer to clinching a dual-team state playoff berth by sweeping South Central 9-0 and 9-0 in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.
The Golden Falcons (9-6) maintained their grasp on third place in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play at 8-3. They entertain Wilson Fike at 4 p.m. today and continue ECC play at home Thursday against county rival Eastern Wayne.
Danny Fairchild, Brandon Howard, Sean Kelly, David Dodson, David Williams and Rich Holder each finished the day 2-0 in singles. Williams, the No. 5 seed, shut out his opponent twice.
The teams played eight-game pro sets.
