Tennis -- Rams continue EPC dominance

Greene Central clinched a share of yet another Carolina/Eastern Plains 1-A/2-A Conference title with a 9-0 triumph against Spring Creek on Tuesday afternoon at Walnut Creek Country Club.

The Rams remained unbeaten in 19 outings, including 14 against C/EPC opposition.

"We understand what we were going up against," Spring Creek coach Robert Jones said. "We were just trying to be competitive. There was some good tennis being played.

"Ricky (Galloway) played a great match. He just ran out of steam in the third."

Galloway, the Gators' No. 4 seed, battled with Chris Hardy for two hours. Hardy claimed the opening set, while Galloway bounced back to take the second set. Hardy maintained his composure and prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

"In the end, Chris seemed to have a little more fuel in his tank," Rams coach Brad Sauls said.

Andrew Hulbert, Brent Darden, Lin Hall, Dustin Grant and Brian Sugg each posted a singles win. Hulbert, Grant and Watson did not lose a game in their respective matches.

Spring Creek (11-2, 10-2 C/EPC) clinched the Carolina Conference's No. 1 seed for the upcoming N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs. The Gators entertain the Atlantic 7 champion May 11.
