Baseball -- State-ranked Patriots outslug Saints

MOREHEAD CITY -- Southern Wayne suffered its seventh Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference defeat of the season after a 15-6 setback against state-ranked West Carteret on Thursday afternoon.
The host Patriots, No. 7 in the latest Impact Baseball.com poll, remained atop the league standings at 9-2.
The Saints' pitching staff of Ashton Langston and Matthew Holloman combined to give up 15 runs (14 earned) on 13 hits.
Nathan Fail, Matthew Holloman, Austin Hood and Josh Narron each had two hits for Southern Wayne. Holloman, Hood and Narron combined for five RBI.
David Combs added a hit and an RBI.
Trent Brooks paced West Carteret with three hits and two RBI.
Southern Wayne returns home next Tuesday against Washington.
