Softball -- Saints drop tough ECC road game

MOREHEAD CITY -- Everything that could go wrong, went wrong in the final inning for Southern Wayne on Thursday afternoon.
West Carteret pushed two runs across and escaped 2-1 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contest.
"I told the girls anything could happen and it did," Saints coach Brad Matthews said.
Danielle Wilkins drove in Southern Wayne's lone run.
Beth Brown, Dominique Williams and Karen Thornton each had one hit for the Saints.
Thornton endured the pitching loss.
Southern Wayne (7-12, 4-7 ECC) entertains Washington next Tuesday.
