Baseball -- Eagles fall in CCC Championship

Four different Wayne Christian players had at least two hits each as the top-seeded Eagles fell 10-7 to Norlina in the Carolina Christian 1-A Championship game on Friday.
The loss drops Wayne Christian to 11-4 as it hopes to receive an at-large bid to the state tournament to be played at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, beginning May 4th. Norlina will receive an automatic bid to the tournament.
Norlina (7-5) used a big third inning in which it had six singles and seven runs to go up 7-0 early as it never trailed.
Doug Johnson had three hits for the Eagles, including a triple and a double. Josh Brannan, Andrew Bass, Tyler Thomas and Adam Brannan all had two hits each for Wayne Christian.
Josh Brannan was named the conference's player of the year, while J.D. Hightower, Billy Smith and Thomas were named first-team all CCC. Bass, Jordan Yelverton and T.A. Brannan were selected to the second team.
Hightower, Yelverton, Thomas and Johnson were placed on the all-tournament team.
