MANTEO -- Charles B. Aycock's day-long trip to the Outer Banks ended in disappointing fashion Tuesday afternoon.
Manteo prevailed at No. 1 doubles and eliminated the Golden Falcons 5-2 from the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A playoffs.
"Manteo has good depth in their lineup," Golden Falcons coach Luke Vail said. "Danny Fairchild and David Williams played very well. Poor serving and inconsistent groundstrokes were costly for us. Manteo played well and deserved to win."
Fairchild, Aycock's top seed, outlasted Cy Corbin 7-6 (7), 6-2. Williams, the fifth seed, rallied to defeat Ryan Evans 6-3, 5-7, 7-4.
The Golden Falcons finished 12-8 overall.
