Spring Creek senior McKenzie Jones, middle, explodes out of the blocks during the preliminary heat in the 100-meter dash in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A Track and Field Championships contested Friday at N.C. State. McKenzie qualified for the finals and finished eighth in his first-ever and final appearance in the day-long meet.
