Chargers fall

in NCISAA tourney opener

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Wayne Country Day's Amanda Benton had three kills and six digs as the Chargers fell 3-0 in the first round of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association to Shannon Forrest.

The Chargers received an at-large bid and entered the tournament as the 13th seed.

Laura Ziemer added three kills and three digs for Wayne Country Day, while Amanda Knutson provided two kills and five digs.

Earlier, Benton and Heather Daughtery were named to the Coastal Plains Independent Conference's all-conference team. Laura Ziemer was selected as an honorable mention.

Novella Zambelli claimed low gross in weekly tournament play at Walnut Creek.

Gaye Bryant emerged the low net winner, while Faye Franklin took low putts.
