MOUNT OLIVE - Mount Olive moved up three spots to No. 2 in this week's NCAA Division II men's basketball East Region poll, released on Wednesday. This week's ranking matches the Trojans' highest-ever regional ranking and marks the fourth consecutive week the Trojans moved up in the poll after opening the season ranked No. 10 in the region.
Mount Olive is 17-3 overall, including a 14-3 mark against teams in the East Region. All of the Trojans' three losses have come against teams ranked in the top five in the region. This week's ranking does not include Monday's loss at top-ranked Pfeiffer, which swept the regular-season series against the Trojans. Mount Olive's only other loss this season was against No. 4 West Virginia State.
Three Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference teams are in the poll as Mount Olive and Pfeiffer are joined by No. 10 Barton. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has four teams ranked in the top 10, while three West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams are ranked in the top 10.
The conference champions from the CVAC, PSAC and WVIAC earn bids to the NCAA II East Regional in March, along with the top five at-large teams.
The regional poll will be announced each Wednesday through March 2.
