Harvey leading Lady Trojans into CVAC tourney play

Tomorrow may be the first day of March, but for the Mount Olive College women's basketball team, March Madness begins tonight.

No. 6 seed Mount Olive plays host to No. 11 seed Limestone tonight in the first round of the 2005 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball tournament. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at College Hall.

Mount Olive (11-15 overall, 9-11 CVAC) defeated Limestone 57-54 at College Hall just two days ago to clinch the No. 6 seed. Latoria Harvey celebrated Senior Day with her 11th double-double of the year, scoring 13 points and pulling down 12 rebounds against the Saints. Harvey reached double figures in scoring and/or rebounding in every CVAC game this year.

Harvey is almost averaging a double-double as the 5-11 forward leads the Trojans with 12.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. She also has 1,070 points for her career, having reached the thousand-point mark two weeks ago against Lees-McRae.

Sophomore forward Melanie Cobb crossed into double figures, averaging 10.2 points per game. Junior center Teneal Boone is averaging 9.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest. Both players reached double-figure point totals Saturday against Limestone.

Limestone (4-22, 4-16) is led by freshman guard Tiffany Jones, who is averaging 13.4 points per game and scored a game-high 14 points Saturday. Jones sparked the Saints to a win in the first meeting of the two teams and almost performed a bit of déjà vu Saturday.

In the first meeting at Gaffney, S.C., Mount Olive led 59-56 when Jones hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game and force overtime. Limestone went on to win 76-67.
