MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College women's tennis player Lauren Harris has been named the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's tennis player of the week.
Harris won the decisive match in the Trojans' CVAC win over Pfeiffer.
A sophomore from Chesapeake, Va., Harris came from behind to post a 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles, enabling Mount Olive to break a 4-4 tie and defeat Pfeiffer 5-4 in a rematch of the first round of last year's CVAC Tournament.
Harris fought off two set points in the first set before winning in a tie-breaker, then rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the second set, winning the final six games to seal the victory for Mount Olive.
The win marked the second time this season Harris has won the deciding match in a conference match-up, having rallied for a three-set win to break a 4-4 tie in the Trojans' conference-opening win over Anderson.
Harris is 3-3 this season in singles matches against CVAC opponents.
Mount Olive is 10-6 overall and is in fifth place in the CVAC standings with a 4-2 record, a half-game behind fourth-place Pfeiffer and one game behind third-place Queens. The Trojans are on the road this weekend for conference matches at Belmont Abbey and Queens.
Mount Olive took a 3-2 lead, but UNC Pembroke won the final four singles matches to defeat the Trojans 6-3 in a non-conference women's tennis match Wednesday afternoon at Walker Tennis Center.
Mount Olive's Lucia Henkle and Mariana Shimoda both won their singles matches at the Nos. 1 and 2 flights and combined for a win at No. 1 doubles for the Trojans.
