Chargers claim season opener vs. Wayne Christian

Senior Adam Wright flirted with a quadruple-double in Wayne Country Day's season-opening 81-47 victory over county rival Wayne Christian on Thursday evening.
Wright tallied 24 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and seven steals.
Senior point guard Tavon Waters pumped in a game-high 28 points and picked the Eagles' pockets for eight steals. Senior Phillip Weeks provided seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
T.A. Brannan led the Eagles with 20 points.
Wayne Country Day (1-0) continues play next Thursday at Arendell-Parrott Academy in Kinston. Wayne Christian (1-1) entertains Albemarle Christian next Tuesday at Clifford Gymnasium.

Chargers open
season with win
Cameron Byrd collected a team-high 13 points in Wayne Country Day's season-opening 40-33 victory over county rival Wayne Christian on Thursday evening.
Tyler Pate added eight points for the Chargers. Teammates David Wilson and Kevin Martel each recorded seven points.
Eric Williams notched a double-double -- 14 points, 11 rebounds -- for the Eagles. Teammates John Norris, Kyle Harrell and Adam Combs each contributed five points.
Wayne Christian (0-1) plays host to Albemarle Christian next Tuesday afternoon at Clifford Gymnasium. The Chargers (1-0) travel to Oakwood Academy next Wednesday afternoon.
