PIKEVILLE -- Wayne Broadhead finished first with a time of 20:32 in the annual Pikeville Independence Day 5K run on Saturday.
Alan Toler took second in the race at 20:44. Dalton Denning (20:51), Kent Vinson (20:58) and Preston Schlachter (22:09) rounded out the top five.

BESSEMER CITY -- The Rosewood Dixie Youth coach-pitch All-Star team, the District 11 champions, are currently in the State AA Tournament held in Bessemer City. Sixteen teams started play in the double elimination tournament on Saturday. The Rosewood All-Stars defeated South Lumberton 15-13, South Park 12-8, Bessemer City 13-6 and South Stanley 11-9 on the first day of the tournament.
Rosewood moved on to play on Monday in the semifinals. Information on that game was unavailable at press time.
