FREDERICK, Md. -- Kinston's Scott Lewis, the Carolina League leader in ERA, picked up his second win in a row with a dominating performance in a 7-1 win over Frederick on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old lefty tied a season high in pitching 52/3 innings, giving up just three hits while striking out six. Lewis has gone five-plus innings just five times this season because of an arm injury that limits him to a strict 70 pitch count.

Lewis, a third-round draft out of Ohio State in 2004, threw 67 pitches in Wednesday's win -- 40 were for strikes. The former Big Ten Pitcher of the Year is now 3-1 with a 1.48 ERA.

Kinston got all the offense its needed from Argenis Reyes. Reyes had hit first in the batting order in 89 of his previous 95 starts for Kinston, but a poor batting average put him at the bottom of the order for the first time this season. Batting ninth, Reyes responded with a 3-for-4 night with a triple and three RBIs. Reyes hit a single to score John Drennen and Javi Herrera in the fourth inning. He added an RBI triple, scoring Drennen again in the seventh.

The 19-year-old Drennen, the newest member of the K-Tribe, was 3-for-4 with three runs scored on the night. Drennen, called up from low A Lake County on July 20, is on a four-game hitting streak.

Kinston now starts a four-game series at Wilmington on Thursday night. Kinston will send starter Kevin Dixon to the mound for the 7 p.m. contest.
