DUDLEY -- T.J. Davis tallied 17 points to lead Southern Wayne to a 71-53 win over Wallace-Rose Hill on Wednesday night in non-conference action.

Paris Armwood added 14 points and Anthony Vick added 12 for the Saints, who improved to 6-6 this season.

Southern Wayne will next travel to play Eastern Wayne on Friday.

Aycock getting closer

to first victory

PIKEVILLE -- The C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons played North Lenoir to a 31-31 tie heading into the final quarter, but an 8-0 run by the Hawks led to a 48-42 non-conference loss for Aycock.

Nick Weaver played his best game of the season, scoring nine points and pulling down five rebounds to lead the Golden Falcons.

The loss drops Aycock to 0-14, who next opens conference play on Friday night against Wilson Beddingfield.

Union drops

North Duplin

CALYPSO -- Desi Smith's 22 points weren't enough as North Duplin fell to Union 82-51.

Chris Graham added 12 points for the Rebels, who fell to 0-5

Union was led by Brent Graham and Jesse Shawl, who both put in 13 points.

North Duplin next travels to North Johnston on Friday.


Midway knocks

off Spring Creek

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Melanique DeVeaux pumped in a team-leading 11 points in Spring Creek's 43-29, non-conference loss at Midway on Tuesday evening.

Maura Phipps added seven points, eight rebounds and two assists. Tasha Whitfield pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

Spring Creek (1-10) committed a season-low 16 turnovers. The Gators open Carolina 1-A Conference play at home Friday against Princeton.

PIKEVILLE -- C.B. Aycock led 37-22 in the second half, but a late run by North Lenoir forced OT enabling the Hawks to win 59-54.

Jazzmine Lee poured in 22 points to lead the Golden Falcons, while Chantel Gaines added 12.

North Lenoir got a team-high 19 points from Carla Miller.

Aycock, now 5-9, opens conference play on Friday night against Wilson Beddingfield.

Union races past

North Duplin

CALYPSO -- Union bolted out to a 21-4 first quarter lead against North Duplin and cruised to a 51-30 victory Wednesday night in non-conference play.

Jessica Pridgen scored 11 points to lead the Rebels.

Union got a game-high 17 points from Jennifer Bright.

North Duplin (0-5) next plays at North Johnston on Friday.

Southern Wayne

knocks off Dawgs

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne did its best job of handling the basketball this season and the result was a 45-34 victory over Wallace-Rose Hill in non-conference action Wednesday evening.

Shakoria Clark led the Saints with 13 points and Lynneshia Leonard added six point and seven steals.

"We felt we were ready to play tonight," said Southern Wayne coach Chuck Crumpler.

The Saints will next face Eastern Wayne on Friday night.

Cody Kirkham collected 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half as Eastern Wayne turned back Southern Nash 55-50 on Wednesday afternoon.

Matthew Houston and Hassan Best each provided seven points for the Warriors.

Eastern Wayne (4-5) seized its second consecutive win and plays host to archrival Southern Wayne on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

DUDLEY -- Monterio Brewington scored nine points and pulled down 12 rebounds to help lead Southern Wayne to a 60-52 victory over Wallace-Rose Hill.

Antoine Brown added 10 points for Southern Wayne who improved to 9-4 and will next play at Eastern Wayne on Friday.
