Eastern Wayne triumphed in the final three individual matches and claimed the 2007 Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference tournament title Saturday afternoon in Pikeville.
The Warriors knocked off two-time defending champion and county archrival Charles B. Aycock 195.5-192. However, the final results are in dispute due to a scoring error involving advancement points.
Eastern Wayne senior Brandon Johnson and C.B. Aycock senior Bryant Lancaster shared ECC wrestler-of-the-year honors. The Warriors' Mike Brown was named ECC coach of the year.
Complete details will appear in Monday's edition.
