MOUNT OLIVE -- For the fourth time this season, Mount Olive has swept the weekly CVAC softball awards.
Erin Wilson was named player of the week and Jenny Jackson was named pitcher of the week for the third time this season. Jackson, who hails from Fremont, has been selected player of the week on two occasions.
Wilson hit .615 for the week which included a 3-for-3, three-RBI performance in the Trojans' shutout over Limestone (S.C.) College. A senior from Moyock, Wilson drove in the winning run on a bunt single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth for the run-rule victory.
Wilson hit safely in all four games last week, including another three-hit performance against Barton. She raised her season batting average 32 points to .356, her highest since early March.
Jackson, a sophomore, tossed complete-game shutouts in both of her starts last week, giving her four consecutive shutouts in conference games. She tossed a seven-inning, five-hitter against Barton and a five-inning, three-hitter against Limestone.
Jackson (12-4) fanned three batters in each game and issued only walk in 12 innings. The right-hander has won eight of her last nine decisions and has allowed only one earned run over her last 39 1/3 innings pitched (0.18 ERA).
