Greene Central holds off North Lenoir

SNOW HILL -- Playoff-bound Greene Central thwarted a late fourth-quarter rally and turned back North Lenoir 34-27 in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference regular-season finale for both teams.
The Hawks (0-11 overall, 0-5 EPC) logged a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead 27-26. But the Rams (8-3) answered and picked up their fourth league win five tries this season.
Curtis Braswell's 19-yard pass from William Brown put Greene Central ahead by a touchdown with 64 seconds remaining in regulation. Brown finished with 155 yards passing, while Braswell hauled in six receptions for 82 yards, including two touchdowns.
Greene Central bolted to a 14-7 lead in the opening quarter on Tyrell Lane's 85-yard kickoff return and Braswell's 14-yard touchdown strike from Brown. Lane added a 5-yard run in the second quarter to give the Rams a 20-14 advantage at halftime.
Lane, who rushed for 113 yards on just carries, supplied a 70-yard scoring gallop in the third period. The Hawks stayed within striking distance heading into the final quarter.
Daron Tripp emerged the Rams' defensive leader with 10 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack. Braswell added eight tackles. Reggie Sanders, Brooks Best and Lane each finished with seven tackles.
