Board approves tougher policy

The N.C. High School Athletic Association is getting tougher on ejections.
Ejection reports from fall sports are on the rise and the NCHSAA Board of Directors elected to enforce a stricter policy beginning with the 2008-09 academic year.
From the start of fall sports seasons through Nov. 19 of last year, there were 138 total ejections, including 69 for football and 98 total for fighting among all sports. The numbers for this year are alarmingly higher with 337 total ejections, including 208 in football and 178 for fighting among all fall sports.
Concerned with the upward trend, the Board decided to increase the suspension time due to fighting. The current policy mandates a one-game suspension in football and two games in other sports. Now, it's two games in football and four in other sports.
