Runner-up in Conference USA regular-season and tournament play last season, the East Carolina baseball team is picked second in this year's preseason poll.
The Pirates return 15 lettermen, including eight starters, from last year's NCAA regional team. Included are preseason all-CUSA picks T.J. Hose, Stephen Batts and Harrison Eldridge.
League coaches tabbed defending CUSA champion Rice, which played in its second consecutive College World Series, as the No. 1 team. Owls outfielder Ryan Luna and sophomore right-hander Ryan Berry were selected as the preseason player- and pitcher-of-the-year, respectively.
Southern Miss was tabbed third in the poll, followed by Tulane and Houston.
