MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive seized sole possession of the No. 2 spot in this week's Collegiate Baseball Division II top 30 poll and remained No. 2 in the Ping Baseball Division II top 30.
The Trojans (12-1 overall) posted a 6-0 record last week and extended their winning streak to 10 games. MOC swept a doubleheader at Wingate and took a four-game series from Shippensburg (Pa.) University.
Defending national champion Tampa (Fla.) remained No. 1 both polls.
The Trojans entertain in-state member Shaw University on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Scarborough Field.
Men's volleyball
MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive sophomore Noel Garcia has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II men's volleyball player of the week.
The MVP in the Golden Dome Classic, Garcia is the first-ever Trojan player to win the award.
A right-side hitter, Garcia recorded a career-high 20 kills in Mount Olive's four-game victory over Harvard. It was the program's first-ever victory over a Division I team. He added 13 kills in a tournament-opening, three-set sweep over East Stroudsburg.
Garcia is the AVCA national player of the week this season from a Division II school and the only from a school outside of California.
Mount Olive (8-4 overall) is the guest of Villa Julie (Md.) on Friday and heads to Boston to compete in the Emmanuel College Tri-Match on Saturday. The Trojans will play Emmanuel and New Haven (Conn.).
