Trojan men knocked out of top 25

MOUNT OLIVE -- Back-to-back losses to end regular-season play knocked Mount Olive College out of the NABC Division II men's basketball top 25 poll.
The Trojans (22-6 overall) received eight points in this week's poll, tying with Wingate as the 33rd-highest vote-getter among coaches who submit ballots.
Mount Olive captured the Conference Carolinas regular-season championship, the program's first since 2005 and third overall since moving to Division II in the mid-1990s. The top-seeded Trojans eliminated Coker (S.C.) in quarterfinal-round play in the conference tournament Monday, and entertain archrival Barton at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Women's golf
VASS -- Mount Olive's Kristen Freeman and Kristen Moberg tied for 16th overall among individual golfers during the St. Andrews Women's Golf Spring Invitational contested at Woodlake Resort and Golf Club.
Freeman, an Eastern Wayne alum, tied for the seventh-lowest score during Tuesday's play. She overcame an opening-round 90 and posted a 36-hole total of 170, just three strokes off her personal best.
Moberg concluded first-round play tied for 10th overall and ended up with a 170. Teammates Deborah Woodrum (177) and Lindsey Becker (189) wound up 27th and 43rd, respectively.
Freshman Brooke Newell also competed.
Mount Olive took seventh overall in the 11-team field with a two-day score of 706. The Trojans edged The Citadel by one stroke and trailed Universite de Montreal by four strokes.
Pfeiffer won the tournament.
