Trojans' Aro has big day against Barton

WILSON -- Carol Aro emerged victorious on the singles and doubles scene, and Mount Olive knocked off archrival Barton 6-3 in a Conference Carolinas women's tennis match Saturday afternoon.
Aro, the No. 2 seed, outlasted the Bulldogs' Chelsea Hseih 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-5. She teamed with Monica Barone for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles over Nadia Filmater-Meaghan Lynch.
Third-seeded Camila Kurebayashi, fourth-seeded Sofia Medeiros and sixth-seeded Kristen Jones also earned singles points. Kurebayashi lost an opening-set tiebreaker to Krista Cedeno, who retired after taking a 1-0 lead in the second set.
Medeiros-Jones triumphed at No. 2 doubles.
Mount Olive (5-5 overall, 5-2 CC) entertains in-state foe Chowan University on Tuesday. First serve is 2 p.m. on the Walker Tennis Center courts.
