ECU baseball tops Southern Miss

Freshman Trent Whitehead collected four RBI as No. 24-ranked East Carolina dumped No. 20-ranked Southern Miss 11-3 on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates (21-9 overall) won their second consecutive Conference USA series and improved to 5-4 in league play. The Golden Eagles (20-10) exited with a 5-4 CUSA worksheet.
ECU hurler Justin Bristow (5-1) allowed three runs and posted seven strikeouts in an eight-inning stint. Seth Simmons provided one inning of one-hit, one-strikeout relief.
Offensively, the Pirates pounded out 14 hits. Harrison Eldridge and Kyle Roller each cranked out three base knocks. Stephen Batts, Corey Kemp and Whitehead supplied two hits apiece.
