MOUNT OLIVE -- Despite a two-hour rain delay, Mount Olive successfully defended its Conference Carolinas baseball regular-season title on a soggy Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans upended Belmont Abbey 10-7 in game one of their doubleheader at Scarborough Field and clinched the No. 1 seed for next week's conference tournament in Wilson.
Game two had not ended at press time.
Todd Jeffreys allowed only one run on two hits in five innings of relief and helped himself with two defensive gems in the opener. Mount Olive improved to 38-4 overall and 19-1 against league opposition this season.
The Crusaders fell to 16-6 in the league.
