MOUNT OLIVE -- Morgan Whaley smashed a three-run homer during a seven-run, fourth-inning uprising as Mount Olive dismantled Chowan 10-1 in game two of their doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
Chowan claimed the opener 4-3.
Catcher Bailey Harrell batted 2-for-2 with three RBI and slugged a third-inning homer, her fifth of the season, in the nightcap. Kelly Minshew, a graduate of Wilson Beddingfield, contributed two hits including a home run.
Junior right-hander Jenny Jackson earned her 16th victory of the season in the pitcher's circle. The Charles B. Aycock graduate retired 13 of 15 batters she faced after yielding a first-inning home run. She logged four strikeouts and walked one.
In game one, Chowan busted loose for four third-inning runs.
Mount Olive hurler Anna Turvin (10-10) limited the Hawks to just one baserunner in the final four-plus innings.
Jackson and Whaley led the offense with two hits apiece.
The Trojans (26-19 overall) return to action Friday in the season-ending Conference Carolinas Championships at Simpsonville, S.C. Seeded third in the 11-team event, Mount Olive opposes either sixth-seeded Limestone or 11th-seeded Belmont Abbey at 4 p.m.
Mount Olive finished third during last year's tournament, the best the Trojans have done since 2000.
