Brett Hayes smacked a ninth-inning home run as Carolina edged Chattanooga 4-3 at Five County Stadium on Mother's Day.
Hitless in his previous three at-bats, Hayes swatted a two-strike pitch over the left field wall. It was the Mudcats' third homer of the game and evened the Southern League series at 1-1.
Each of the nine Carolina starters had at last one hit in the win.
