Starting pitcher Carlton Smith retired the final 16 Wilmington batters he faced Thursday evening, but Kinston suffered a 1-0 defeat on the historic Grainger Stadium diamond.
Mike Pontius retired all six batters in relief of Smith. Jeff Howell's two-out, first-inning RBI single accounted for Wilmington's lone run.
The K-Tribe had three hits in the loss.
