Connor Narron, a rising junior at Charles B. Aycock, verbally committed to play baseball at North Carolina on Wednesday afternoon.
Narron is ranked as the fourth-best high school player in the country by Perfect Game USA. He helped lead the Golden Falcons to the 2007 N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A championship.
The Tar Heels made a third consecutive appearance in the College World Series, but settled for third place after falling to eventual national champion Fresno State.
Narron will join former Aycock teammate Garrett Davis. The duo helped Wayne CountyPost 11 finish runner-up in the 2007 American Legion state tournament.
