CHOCOWINITY -- Akeem Cox scored three first half touchdowns and North Duplin survived a scare in the form of a quarterback injury while rolling to a 35-12 victory at Chocowinity Southside.
Devin Oliver's 74-yard return of the opening kickoff set up his own 14-yard touchdown run on the Rebels (1-0) first offensive play. Armando Prudencio's extra point was no good and North Duplin led 6-0 just 21 seconds in.
Rebels quarterback Alan Schilling suffered a first quarter knee injury, but was reportedly walking along the sidelines later in the game.
Akeem Cox added a 5-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter and backup quarterback Marcus Kornegay tacked on the two-point conversion with a pass to Troy Swanzey.
Cox tacked on scoring runs of 13 and 15-yard in the second quarter and North Duplin led 28-0 at the half. The senior tailback finished with 163 yards and three scores on 20 carries.
Oliver's 36-yard score in the third quarter capped the Rebels scoring. North Duplin finished with 304 yards on the ground on 43 carries.
The Rebels travel to Yeatesville Northside at 7:30 p.m. next Friday.
