SEVEN SPRINGS -- How sweet it is!
Winless each of the past two seasons on the Carolina 1-A Conference softball scene, Spring Creek finally posted a long-awaited victory Friday evening.
Janna Price delivered an eighth-inning, game-winning single as the Gators topped archrival North Duplin 7-6. Spring Creek snapped a 27-game losing streak against league opposition and earned just its second triumph this season.
Winning pitcher Elizabeth Edwards, who allowed five hits, supplied the game-tying single in the seventh inning. Tied at 6-6 after regulation play, Kaitlyn Casey started the Gators' eighth inning with a lead-off triple. Price followed with her lone hit of the night.
Edwards logged seven strikeouts in the pitcher's circle, and finished with two hits and two RBI at the plate. Parks, Lane and Collier (two RBI) contributed two hits apiece.
Prunest added one hit.
Ansley Hill batted 2-for-4 for the Rebels. Caitlin Davis (RBI), Angelica Favela (RBI) and Kailey Odom each contributed one hit.
Skylar McCarty endured the pitching loss.
Spring Creek (2-12 overall, 1-6 Carolina) visits North Johnston for a doubleheader Monday. North Duplin entertains Rosewood.

SNOW HILL -- Mindi Stallings cranked out three hits as North Lenoir doubled up Greene Central 6-3 in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams Friday.

Deal yielded five hits, five walks and fanned five Greene Central batters.
The Hawks (15-6 overall, 8-2 EPC) face either the Rams or Goldsboro in a semifinal-round, EPC tournament game Tuesday.
