DUDLEY -- Eastern Wayne got a complete-game effort from Lani Fricks in the pitcher's circle and earned its first Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference win of the season with a 4-2 victory at Southern Wayne on Tuesday night.

Fricks surrendered two earned runs with four strikeouts and a walk.

Morgan Smith provided two hits for the Warriors. Carrisa Turner (RBI) and Hannah Grantham each had a hit.

Eastern Wayne (5-12 overall, 1-8 ECC) visits North Lenoir on Friday night. The proceeds raised from the game will benefit each schools' Relay for Life team.

Bulldogs chase Rebels

PRINCETON -- Traci Bridgers tossed a complete-game shutout and Princeton turned back Carolina 1-A Conference foe North Duplin 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Bridgers scattered four hits while striking out eight and walking three.

Skylar McCarty, Raychel Barwick, Caitlin Davis and Casey Thornton each had a hit for the Rebels. Ansley Hill suffered the loss in the pitcher's circle despite limiting the Bulldogs to two hits.

North Duplin committed three errors.

Princeton (11-4 overall, 6-0 CC) travels to North Johnston today, while North Duplin (4-8, 3-3) plays host to Ayden-Grifton on Friday.

Triton trips up CBA

ERWIN -- Charles B. Aycock was dealt a 15-3 loss at Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Triton on Tuesday night.

Autumn Pittman (3 RBI) and Rachel Jordan each had two hits for the Golden Falcons. Cara Fredrick added a hit.

Brooke Bell took the loss in the pitcher's circle.

Aycock (12-6 overall, 6-3 ECC) fell into third place in the league standings and concludes regular-season play at home against Southern Wayne on Friday.

Conquerors prevail

Hannah Stocks led the offense with four hits and Faith Christian outlasted Trinity Christian 13-8 on Tuesday.

Madison Caudle supplied three hits for the Conquerors. Christian Powell and Elizabeth Weeks each had two. Stocks also picked up the win in the pitcher's circle.

Faith (6-6 overall) begins regional tournament play this weekend.

WCS stumbles

KINSTON -- Wayne Christian was held to just two hits and endured a 9-0, non-conference loss at Parrott Academy on Tuesday.

Victoria Combs and Kayla Kennedy each tallied a hit for the Eagles.

Rachel McCollum took the loss in the pitcher's circle.

Wayne Christian fell to 7-4 overall.


Aycock triumphs

ERWIN -- Despite recording just four hits, Charles B. Aycock defeated Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Triton 7-0 on Tuesday night.

Jordan Quinn (RBI), Nicholas McGee (RBI), Jonathan Taylor and Tyler Farmer each had a hit for the Golden Falcons.

Bryant Stafford earned the win on the mound, allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks over four shutout innings.

Aycock (20-2 overall, 8-1 ECC) plays host to Southern Wayne on Friday.

Faith still unbeaten

Faith Christian concluded its regular season a perfect 11-0 with a 9-2 win over Trinity Christian on Tuesday.

Michael Clark (RBI) and Brandon Jones each collected three hits for the Conquerors. Nick Gurley added two hits and an RBI.

Gurley earned the win on the mound tossing a complete game two-hitter.

Faith begins postseason play on Friday.

Rams cruise

PINETOPS -- Greene Central defeated Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opponent SouthWest Edgecombe 13-3 in five innings on Tuesday.

Deric Grant and Jon Nethercutt both contributed two hits and an RBI for the Rams. Zach Chase recorded the win on the mound surrendering just one hit while striking out nine in three innings.

Greene Central (12-6 overall, 8-2 EPC) plays host to EPC foe Farmville Central on Thursday.

SC rallies late

LITTLEFIELD -- Spring Creek erupted for 16 runs in the sixth inning, and turned back Ayden-Grifton 16-12 in Carolina 1-A Conference action Tuesday evening.

Dontay Boseman, Duane Gurganus and Will Janning cranked out four hits apiece for the Gators. Zach Harrell, Hunter Barnett and Chris Boseman each provided two hits.

Ricky Brayboy claimed the mound win, throwing 2 1/3 innings of relief.

The Gators (11-6 overall, 6-1 CC) travel to Southern Wayne today, and entertain defending conference champion Rosewood on Thursday.

Eagles roll

Rosewood earned a 23-0 win at Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Goldsboro on Tuesday.

Will Beasley went 3 for 3 with a three-run home run for the Eagles. Scott Pate added three hits and Cody Harris had two.

Garrett Burns earned the win on the mound.

Asjhani Maddox recorded the Cougars' lone hit.

Rosewood (11-6 overall, 7-0 CC) visits Spring Creek on Thursday, while Goldsboro travels to Princeton on Friday.

WCDS defeated

ROCKY MOUNT -- Faith Christian of Rocky Mount scored nine runs in the home half of the first and defeated Wayne Country Day 15-8 on Tuesday.

Hil Tanner paced the Chargers with two hits and three RBI. Cody Neal and Stoan Stewart both contributed home runs. Dare Uzzell added two RBI and Tee Uzzell had an RBI.

Wayne Country Day (12-7 overall) faces Greenfield tonight at Fleming Stadium in Wilson. The winner clinches the Coastal Plains Independent Conference regular-season championship and automatic bid to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs.

Girls' soccer

Falcons escape

ERWIN -- Tara Simmons notched the game-winning goal midway through the second half, and Charles B. Aycock doubled up Triton 2-1 in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams.

The Hawks (3-6-0 overall, 3-4-0 ECC) broke a scoreless halftime with an early second-half goal. The Golden Falcons' Amanda Farmer collected the equalizer around the 55th minute.

Simmons cranked out the decisive goal about five minutes later.

"We need to finish opportunities inside the box," said Aycock assistant coach Scott Summers. "As coaches, we're trying to get the girls motivated to play hard the whole game and not just the second half."

Aycock (10-5-2, 6-2) returns to action May 5 against Triton in the season-ending ECC tournament.

Eagles eliminated

Wayne Christian was eliminated from the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament with a 1-0 loss to Trinity Christian on Tuesday.

JV sports

* Baseball: Southern Wayne 3, Eastern Wayne 2 -- Sam Ferrell led the Saints with two hits and an RBI. Tyler Ware went 2 for 3 with two RBI. Nolan James suffered the loss on the mound while pitching a complete game.

Middle schools

* Softball: Princeton 3, North Johnston 1 -- Kasey Edwards doubled and tripled for the Bulldawgs. Logan Pace added one hit. Savanna Massengill logged 14 strikeouts inside the pitcher's circle. Princeton travels to Meadow on Thursday.
