MOC Men's Volleyball Festival ends with 1-2 record

MOUNT OLIVE -- Limestone (S.C.) College finished strong in each set and swept Mount Olive College 25-23, 25-23, 25-19 on day two of the MOC Men's Volleyball Festival contested at Kornegay Arena.
The game did not count in Conference Carolinas play, and the Trojans concluded the two-day event with a 1-2 worksheet. MOC opened festival action with a three-set sweep of Barton and dropped a four-set encounter against Quincy (Ill.) in the nightcap on Friday.
Adam Miracle and Renzo Rossato finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, against Limestone. Jackson Metichecchia handed out 31 assists. Rossato also served three aces, while Tyler Carnes led the team with five digs on defense.
Rossato paced a balanced offensive attack with seven kills in MOC's season-opening 25-14, 25-19, 25-22 conquest of Barton. Rossato played the second and third sets as 13 different players saw action for Mount Olive. No Trojan played more than two sets.
Lukas Hoelzl, John Nunns and Jack Tutty added six kills apiece for MOC. Quaid Marin recorded 22 assists, while Tutty had four blocks.
Quincy (Ill.) broke away from an 18-18 tie in the fourth set and eased past the Trojans 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22. Miracle cranked out a season-high 18 kills and recorded six digs, while Tutty provided 11 kills and three blocks.
Metichecchia doled out 45 assists.
Each team finished with hitting percentages above .400 -- Mount Olive at .429 and Quincy at .425. The Trojans recorded at least a .400 hitting percentage in each of the four sets.
The Trojans begin defense of their Conference Carolinas regular-season championship at home Jan. 24 against Barton. First serve is 7 p.m.
