PIKEVILLE -- The top four hitters in Charles B. Aycock Blue's lineup did the heavy lifting while Noah West held Parrott in check.
The Golden Falcons' first four hitters combined for eight hits and five RBI in an 8-2 victory over the Patriots in an Eastern Carolina Baseball League game Thursday afternoon.
Trent Herndon led C.B. Aycock Blue with three hits and an RBI. Charlie Robertson (two RBI) and West (RBI) each tallied two hits. Logan Brown contributed a hit and an RBI as the top of the Golden Falcons' order combined to go 8-for-13 at the plate.
"Herndon had a great day at the plate," C.B. Aycock Blue head coach Allen Thomas said. "Logan Brown got on with a walk and had a hit. West, the kid's been swinging it all school year and this summer. He's been our leader at the plate."
West pitched a complete game and surrendered two runs (one earned) on just two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks to earn the win.
"We made a couple of mistakes in the field and that's going to happen, we had a couple of guys playing out of position," Thomas said. "Noah battled and he didn't get frustrated. He stayed the course and worked out himself out of some trouble. He kept his pitch count down and threw the ball well today."
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on John Tyler's sacrifice fly.
The Golden Falcons threatened in the bottom of the first inning with the bases loaded and two outs but failed to score.
Aycock Blue (10-1 overall) sent nine men to the plate and pushed across five runs in the bottom of the third inning. West and Robertson each provided an RBI single. Brown raced home on a wild pitch and Logan Runyon delivered a two-run double.
"We've been harping on putting the ball in play with runners in scoring position," Thomas said. "Our kids buy into that now throughout the summer and we've done well with making the defense make plays with runners in scoring position."
Parrott got an unearned run back in the top of the fourth inning.
Brown and Robertson each tacked on an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Golden Falcons' lead grew to 7-2.
Herndon added an RBI single in the home half of the fifth.
Aycock Blue visits Greene Central on Monday.
