Jones takes 1st, WCS boys tie with Faith-Rocky Mount

Wayne Christian finished tied for first with Faith Christian of Rocky Mount in the boys' portion of an eight-team meet at Waynesborough Park on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles and Patriots both compiled team scores of 49 points. Wayne Country Day (70), Trinity (128) and Lee Christian (166) rounded out the team scoring.
Wayne Christian's Connor Jones was the top male runner with a time of 17 minutes, 53 seconds. Trinity's Christian Pigues was second in 18:08. Wayne Country Day's Jason Jones (20:45) and Jackson Warren (20:50) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Eagles' Spencer Foster (21:38) crossed the finish line in sixth place.
Faith of Rocky Mount claimed the girls' portion of the meet with a score of 38 points. Freedom (66) finished second ahead of Lee (115). None of the five remaining teams recorded a score.
Wayne Christian's Sarah Allen won the girls' race with a time of 25:10.
Wayne Country Day's Margaret Tanner crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 28:48. The Eagles' Georgia Parnell earned a ninth place finish in 31:18.
The Chargers' Crawford Tanner (31:30) and Mary Anna Mitchell (31:43) were 10th and 11th, respectively.
