Lewis E. “Dusty” Varnam, 74, of Supply went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday August 21, 2022.
Dusty was born in Brunswick County on June 11, 1948 and was the son of the late Reverend Weston and Mary Fulford Varnam. Mr. Varnam was a lifelong member of Gospel Center Baptist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a retired shrimper and owned and operated his own boat the “Scorpion”. His favorite color was red. He painted the outriggers on his shrimp boat red and his favorite car was his red mustang. Dusty never met a stranger and always had a smile for everyone. He also had some favorite sayings that he would quote quiet often, “It’s like this here” and “To put it in a nutshell” and he always told everyone to have a Blessed Day. His favorite meal was ribeye steak and shrimp.
Dusty was a man of enormous faith and also loved his country. He always prayed for his country and ask for God’s blessing upon this country and that this nation would be in God’s favor.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Edge Varnam; four children, Matthew Varnam (David), Meredith Sullivan (Kevin), Richard Ward (Barbie) and Ryan Ward all of Supply; a grandson, Brian Sullivan of Supply; a sister, Diane Davis of Supply; great nieces, Allison Fulford (Matt) and Alexis Branch (Dylan) of Supply and a great-great nephew Rhett Fulford.
Funeral services were held Wednesday August 24 at the Gospel Center Baptist Church with Reverend Landis Lancaster and Danny Galloway officiating.
Burial followed in the Gospel Center Cemetery. Pallbearers were, James Arthur Robbins, Austin Robbins, Kevin Caison, Tim White, Nathan Swain and John Galloway.
