Marilyn Sue Capretta, 83, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC died February 18, 2023.

Born in East Liverpool, OH on February 21,1939, Marilyn was the youngest daughter of the late Albert Lancaster and Anna Ochman Lancaster, and was preceded in death by sisters Lois Lancaster and Joyce Bradeis, and beloved daughter-in-law Melanie Lin Capretta. She was a parishioner of St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Don Capretta; sons, Tony Capretta of Dublin, Calif., Jim Capretta (Claire) of Arlington, Va., and Michael Capretta (Sandy) of Decatur, Ga.; daughters, Annette Capretta of Arlington, Va., Diane Mulligan (Don) of Edina, Minn., and Karen Capretta of Wilmington, N.C.; and 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Marilyn was a proud class of 1956 graduate of East Liverpool High School. She was active in all of the parishes of which she was a member including St. Augustine in Pleasanton, Calif., Our Lady of Mercy in Winston-Salem, N.C., St. Agnes in Arlington, Va., and St. Brendan the Navigator in Shallotte, N.C. Marilyn was employed for many years as an administrator and office manager for several educational organizations, starting with Bishop McGuinness Memorial High School in Winston-Salem, NC, and followed by Wake Forest University, also in Winston-Salem, the National Alliance for Partners in Education in Alexandria, VA, and the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C., from which she retired in 2006. Marilyn was an active volunteer throughout her life, including at So Others Might Eat in Washington, DC, and at St. Brendan’s Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Shallotte, NC. She cherished the friendships she developed through her faith sharing group at St. Brendan’s and as an active early participant in the water aerobics sessions in her Ocean Ridge community. A Mass was held February 28, in St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Columbus, OH. The family received friends February 27, 2023 in the chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte.
