Levi United FC Youth Academy’s U16 boys’ team won the club’s first championship title at the MYSA Spring Shootout soccer tournament Feb. 10-12 in Mebane.
Photo contributedLevi United FC Youth Academy, Brunswick County’s local competitive youth soccer organization, traveled to Mebane to compete in the MYSA Spring Shootout soccer tournament Feb. 10-12.
LUFCYA took three teams to the tournament, a U15 girls’, U16 boys’ and U17 boys’ teams.
The U-16 boys’ team had an extraordinary performance throughout the entire weekend, scored nine goals without allowing any goals scored against them. They were the champions of the U16 Boys division. The club is extremely proud of their performance and for bringing home the clubs first championship title.
Head coach Antony Tapia leads the U-16 boys’ team.
“I couldn’t ask more from this U16 team, they played their hearts out in every game and never gave up. They executed my game plan perfectly and added their own creativity to it as well. Everyone playing collectively as a unit, attacking-wise and defensively, is what ultimately led to the win. There was a display of pace and power in attack, creativity and control in the midfield, and grit and fight in the defense. I am so proud of them for their determination to win a medal for Levi United and Brunswick County,” Tapia said.
The U-17 boys’ team is back-to-back semi-finalists for their age group at the MYSA Spring Shootout.
The U15 girls’ team made drastic improvements since their first tournament in January. The club is excited to see their growth and cannot wait to see their development over the season.
LUFCYA has four more tournaments left this season to represent Brunswick County.
March: CISC Race City Classic, March 3-5, Rock Hill (S.C.), Huntersville and Mooresville
April: Tournament of Champions, April 21-23, Holly Spring
May: Seaside Soccer Classic, May 20-21, Wilmington
June: National Cup 2023 Southeast Regional Qualifier Tournament, June 16-19 (Finals on June 20), Bermuda Run
