It’s the time of year Mahi, wahoo, black fin tuna and king mackerel are stealing the show. It’s some of the best spring fishing I’ve seen in awhile.
Starting with the nearshore report — Kings, Spanish and bluefish, oh my!

It’s the time of year Mahi, wahoo, black fin tuna and king mackerel are stealing the show. It’s some of the best spring fishing I’ve seen in awhile.
Starting with the nearshore report — Kings, Spanish and bluefish, oh my!
You heard it right, king mackerel are here. The beach piers have been putting a beat down on the kings so far this spring, along with Spanish mackerel and blue fish. Sure the moon, tides and the wind have a lot to do with the bite, but when the bait is here and the water temp is just right, it’s hard to beat.
From trolley rigs and gotcha plugs on the piers, to slow trolling live baits and spoons on the beach, lots of quality fish are being caught. And the bite should only get better. We haven’t even hit the peak yet.
For my offshore fishing friends, the wahoo and Mahi bite is great right now. When you catch those nice days that are few and far between, take advantage of them, it has been proven it’s worth it.
Mahi are still kind of hanging out South but should be up this way consistently in the next week or so. Most anglers are reporting bites on daisy chains.
For the wahoo the reports are all over the place, it doesn’t seem to matter what you put out the back of the boat, as long as you are on time for that morning bite you should be golden.
Inshore, the sheepshead along with black drum are really coming in strong and that should continue to be the case all spring and summer. Redfish and trout have started to move back into shallow creeks, and of course live shrimp has been doing the job.
