United Way has two community programs that can help individuals and local charity groups.

Family Wize is a discount pharmaceutical card that United Wayne brought to Wayne County.

“With the card, they can take it to a listing of pharmacies and get discounts on their prescriptions,” said Patty Graham, community engagement director.

“Anybody can use it. You can be insured, not insured or partially insured. A lot of people are using it for their mental health medications.”

The discount depends on the medicine. It could save you up to half the cost of your medicine. Or it could take several dollars off the cost.

You can pick up your Family Wize card at the United Way office. It is free.

To find out how much you’ll save, go to unitedwayne.org, click on find help and go to the link to the Family Wize website.

Then type in your prescription.

United Way also operates Volunteer Wayne, a site that matches volunteers to groups that need help.

“Nonprofit agencies, churches and civic groups can post what their organization is all about, and if they have a need for a volunteer, they post it,” Graham said. “They can also post events.

“If someone in the community is looking for a volunteer position, they can sign up.”
