Ranky Tanky will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Paramount Theatre, part of the Paramount Performing Arts Series.
This band of native South Carolinians brings the soulful songs of the Gullah culture to Goldsboro with a mix of Low Country traditions and large doses of jazz, gospel, funk and R&B.
Gullah comes from the West African language, which means a people blessed by God.
The quintet performs music of the Gullah culture born in the southeastern Sea Island region of the United States, from playful game songs.
To ecstatic shouts, from heartbreaking sprituals to delicate lullabies.
Tickets are available at the Paramount box office, by calling 919-583-8432 or online at www.goldsboroparamount.com.
