Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Norman R. Seip, who was stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base twice, will be the speaker at the United Way of Wayne County’s annual meeting, Feb. 28 at 8 a.m., at First Baptist Church. He is a founder of Mission: Readiness, which is retired military leaders working on strengthening national security by ensuring kids stay in school, stay fit and stay out of trouble. He also serves as chairman of the board for Council for a Strong America. Seip was chosen to be the speaker because his focus goes along with United Way’s main focus area, which is education, with the goal of having children succeed in school, graduate and succeed in life with a good job and financial stability. During the annual meeting, United Way will present the Emily Rosenthal Volunteer of the Year Award and Spirit of Wayne Awards. Reservations are $10 and due by Feb. 21 by calling United Way at 919-735-3591, logging onto www.unitedwayne.org or sending payment to the United Way of Wayne County, P.O. Box 10893, Goldsboro, N.C., 27532.
