Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle and Goldsboro native Jarran Reed will host a USA Football FUNdamentals clinic for children ages 8-14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at Goldsboro High School. The University of Mount Olive’s baseball team is holding a series of summer camps. The Little League Camp is taking place from June 17-20 for children ages 6-12 years old and is 9 a.m. - noon. The Instructional Skills Camp is on July 15-17 (two half days and one full day) and is for kids 6-13 years old. The Prospect Showcase Camp is taking place on July 22-24 (two half day and one full day) and is for the graduating classes 2020-2024. The 2019 Wayne County Basketball Camp is taking place from July 8-11 and again from July 15-18. This year’s camp will be divided into two separate age group sessions. Campers entering grades 1-4 will be attending camp from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., while campers entering grades 5-8 will be attending camp from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. The cost of each camp will $100, $150 if both attended. T-shirts will be given to each camper that attends one session and shorts will be given to extra to those campers that attend both sessions. The Michael Martin Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by Friendly Mart will be held on Thursday, August 15 at the Southern Wayne Country Club. Tee times will be at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The entry fee is $80 per player or $320 per team. There will be a raffle drawing and silent auction at the tournament, as well as golfer contests such as longest drive and closest to pin. Prizes include two flights. Golfers will receive goodie bags, and food and beverages will be available. The deadline to sign up is Aug. 1. All contributions are 100% tax-deductible and will go directly to the Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund and the University of Mount Olive Trojan Club.
