Charles B. Aycock High School will begin football workouts Monday, June 17, at 7:30 a.m. for anyone interested in playing this season. Rising 9th graders are highly encouraged to attend, as well as all returning and new players. Players will meet in the weight room.

Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle and Goldsboro native Jarran Reed will host a USA Football FUNdamentals clinic for children ages 8 through 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Goldsboro High School. Registration for the camp is from 8 to 8:50 a.m. and online registration is available at The fun and free event is designed to introduce children to football by teaching basic skills in an exciting and energetic environment. 

The University of Mount Olive’s baseball team is holding a series of summer camps. The Little League Camp is taking place from June 17 through 20 for children ages 6 through12 years old, and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Instructional Skills Camp is July 15 through 17 (two half days and one full day), and is for kids 6 through 13 years old.

The Prospect Showcase Camp is taking place July 22 through 24 (two half day and one full day), and is for the graduating classes 2020 through 2024.

The Carolina Shockwave is hosting a summer volleyball camp at Charles B. Aycock High School from July 9 through 11. Ages 9 through 13 will meet from 9 a.m. to noon. Ages 14 through 12 will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, visit the Carolina Shockwave at

The 2019 Wayne County Basketball Camp is taking place from July 8 through 11 and again from July 15 through 18. This year’s camp will be divided into two separate age group sessions. Campers entering grades 1 through 4 will be attending camp from 9 a.m. to noon, while campers entering grades 5 through 8 will be attending camp from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost of each camp will be $100 each or $150 if attending both.

The Michael Martin Memorial Golf Tournament, sponsored by Friendly Mart, will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, at Southern Wayne Country Club. Tee times will be at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The entry fee is $80 per player or $320 per team.

There will be a raffle drawing and silent auction at the tournament, as well as golfer contests such as longest drive and closest to pin. Prizes include two flights.

Golfers will receive goodie bags, and food and beverages will be available.

The deadline to sign up is Aug. 1. All contributions are 100 percent tax-deductible and will go directly to the Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund and the University of Mount Olive Trojan Club.
