Attendees watch a presentation at the Discovering Milestones of African-American Women in the Workforce program at the Wayne County Library Tuesday. The program included information about African-American women in Wayne County who found ways to contribute to their community from the 1960s through the early 2000s. The program was the first of its kind at the library and recognized prominent sororities in the area, such as Alpha Kappa Alpha and the Continentals. Brittany Champion, a reference librarian who organized the program, said preparations for the event included more than a month of research. Champion said that showing diversity among the women in Wayne County was a driving factor behind the program, which was held as part of the library’s observance of Black History Month.
