Wayne County Emergency Services has announced two additional shelters at the following locations:

  • Mount Olive Middle School, 309 Wooten St., Mount Olive
  • Spring Creek Middle School, 3579 NC 111, Seven Springs

The following shelters are still open:

  • Wayne Middle/High Academy, 801 N. Lionel St., Goldsboro
  • Tommy’s Road Elementary School, 1150 Tommy’s Road, Goldsboro
  • Spring Creek High School, 4340 Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs

Carver Elementary School, 400 Old Seven Springs Road, Mount Olive, is full and can no longer accept those seeking shelter from the storm.

People seeking shelter should bring blankets, pillows, air mattresses, cots, any personal hygiene products, medication and any special needs items for infants, children and seniors. Cots will not be available at the shelter.

Shelter residents who require at home care assistance, or are bedridden, should have their personal caregiver accompany them to the shelter.

Wayne County residents are urged to finalize their preparations for the hurricane and locate a safe place to stay sheltered by 5 p.m. today.

All Wayne County emergency personnel will be removed from the roads and sheltered once winds reach a sustained 50 mph. Emergency personnel will not be available for assistance during that time until it is safe for them to resume working.

Wayne County Emergency Services has provided a detailed list of suggested items for residents to pack before seeking shelter at the above locations.

People should bring general items such as clothing, toiletries, any special dietary needs and non-perishable foods for snacks, identification and important documents, personal and family entertainment items and flashlights and batteries.

Any items for infants and toddlers such as formula, water, milk, juices, baby food, diapers, wipes, blankets and coolers with ice to keep supplies cool if necessary.

Additional medical supplies and equipment such as oxygen machines, nebulizers or glucometers should be packed and brought with residents, as well as prescription medications, a written list of medications, oxygen and oxygen supplies, diabetic equipment, batteries and chargers for electric wheelchairs and other mobility equipment.
