A Friday assembly at Brogden Middle School was geared toward students in preparation for end-of-grade testing.
Damesha Smith, Brogden Middle School principal, decided to have the Recognizing Achievement Matters assembly to recognize the achievements of students and to encourage them to do their best during final testing for the school year.
Sen. Don Davis, D-District 5, and Rep. Raymond Smith, D-District 21, were invited guests, and each spoke to students during the event. Smith said students are not only valuable but also need to be provided with every opportunity to be successful.
School board members Len Henderson and Ken Faulk also were in attendance.
Several students participated in the program, including Alisha Wilkerson, who read a poem called “Attitude”; Chase Brown, who read “Invictus”; and Kierrah Coleman, who danced to the song “Beautiful.” The Brogden Middle School choir sang “Rise Up” and “Stand by Me.”
