MOUNT OLIVE — The Carver High School Alumni and Friends Association will hold its annual homecoming weekend July 4 through July 7 on the old school’s campus, now the Carver Cultural Center, on South Breazeale Avenue.
Special recognition will be given to the Carver High School Classes of 1944, 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964 and 1969 as well as the Southern Wayne High School Classes of 1974 and 1979.
The two schools consolidated in 1970.
“We are so pleased that Southern Wayne graduates have fond recollections of Carver beginnings and fellow students,” said Comatha B. Johnson, association reporter/publicist. “Our legacy continually affords us opportunities to prosper with unseen resources for growth.
“Our theme remains unchanged and unfaltering in ‘Saluting a Tradition of Pride and Achievement.’ Steadfast Carver Alumni objectives remain the same — awarding young scholars, meeting individuals in their time of need and promoting the community connection. Most significant is that the members have exercised the lessons that our ancestors have imparted to do much with little.”
Campus projects are ongoing and require resources, Johnson said.
“Let us climb the financial rungs of hope, expansion, charity, and give,” she said. “So, remember each fund is crucial — scholarship, general and building — as we depend upon the kindness that monetary gifts can provide. The Carver buildings have evolving needs to comfortably host admirers, visitors and prospects for the future.
“No matter the level of assistance, we are grateful for generosity.”
